Mathey-Tissot Bumper Automatic 32.5mm Pierced Lugs Screwback Arthur Wagner 1950s

Sale price$240.00

Own a piece of horological and cultural history with this vintage Mathey-Tissot Swiss watch from the mid-20th century, previously owned by Arthur Wagner, founding chair of UCSD's Theatre and Dance Department and a key San Diego arts philanthropist (1923-2015). The 32.5mm stainless steel case houses a cream tropical dial that's beautifully patinated to warm tones, featuring Arabic numerals, a telemeter scale for measuring distances via sound (e.g., artillery in its era), and sword hands with minor oxidation. Signed "Mathey-Tissot" in script; case back engraved "Arthur Wagner," adding provenance tied to his legacy (e.g., Wagner Theatre naming).

Powered by a 17-jewel Swiss movement, it runs intermittently—worked recently but stopped, suggesting need for servicing to restore full function. Crystal shows light scratches; case has patina and minor dings consistent with age. On a black leather strap with white stitching, showing wear at edges but secure buckle.

Please note: This watch will need to be serviced to return to working conditions.
